Overview

The School of Law at the University of Essex has an established reputation for the highest quality teaching and research. The School has developed many successful cutting edge degrees involving studies of different legal cultures and systems and is well known for its European and international dimensions.

Applications are now invited for PhD studies in the field of Comparative Law (with a focus on comparative public law). The research will focus on the study of the global legal environment from a comparative perspective. The successful candidate will have a background in law (including comparative law and/or public law) and a conceptual understanding of the legal principles of European law, the legal cultures and the main legal systems present in Europe and, if relevant to the topic of the thesis, elsewhere. For applications that fall outside of these areas see other Postgraduate Scholarship opportunities in Law
