Overview
The School of Law at the University of Essex has an established reputation for the highest quality teaching and research. The School has developed many successful cutting edge degrees involving studies of different legal cultures and systems and is well known for its European and international dimensions
Applications are now invited for PhD studies in the field Animal Welfare Law. The scholarship is not prescriptive as to the jurisdictional scope of the research and applications considering international, regional, comparative or purely English domestic law are welcomed. Likewise the research may focus on any pressing issue of concern: suggested topics might be, for instance, farming, transportation and slaughter, medical research, zoos and circuses or the regulation of companion animals.
Eligible Candidates
The successful candidate will have a background in Law, and although Animal Welfare Law need not have been specifically studied, an interest in and knowledge of the basic legal structures in which the research is set is essential.

The scholarships will cover tuition fees for up to three years and are available for students who wish to start their studies in October 2010. For general entry requirements for research degrees see our website.
