Overview
Applications are invited for a fully funded (fees and maintenance) 3 year PhD based in the newly formed Cinema and Television History Research Centre within the Department of Media, Film and Journalism at De Montfort University . The successful applicant will be part of a team working on the AHRC funded project 'A History of Television for Women' in conjunction with the University of Warwick and will be supervised by Dr Helen Wood (with Dr Rachel Moseley).
The research project will explore how television addressed women in the period 1947-1989. The central objective is to illuminate a largely uncharted history of television produced for and watched by women in Britain during a period of significant industrial and social change. Working alongside a research fellow conducting archival research and Dr Rachel Moseley and Dr Helen Wheatley (University of Warwick), the successful candidate will undertake oral history research with women viewers of different generations about their memories of television and its role in their daily lives.
Eligible Candidates
You will have a background in media studies, television studies or sociology, preferably with an interest in gender and history. A Master's degree in a related area is also desirable. Candidates with experience in qualitative interview techniques are encouraged, although this is not essential. The project offers an exceptional opportunity to work with a team of researchers in the emerging area of television history.
