Overview
As part of a Joint Research Initiative between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield, applicants are sought for 4 PhD Scholarships. The Scholarships, which fully cover University tuition fees for Home/EU and International applicants, are intended to form the nucleus of an interdisciplinary research venture centred around two joint projects, which will commence in October 2010:
1.Modelling and monitoring rail-wheel contact in rolling railway vehicles (2 scholarships)
2.Estimation of rail vehicle dynamic parameters using motor drive behaviour (2 scholarships)
For each project, one researcher will be based at the University of Huddersfield (Queensgate Campus) and the other at Manchester Metropolitan University. Each will be expected to travel as necessary between the two institutions.
Fee waiver scholarship:
The scholarship is open to Home/EU and International applicants who lack funding but have outstanding academic merit and excellent research potential. The scheme supports all research students both full and part-time and will waive 100% of tuition fees. Applicants must be able to fund all living expenses.
The successful candidates will join existing teams of highly motivated and able research students in the Rail Research Unit at Manchester Metropolitan University and the Diagnostic Engineering Research Group at the University of Huddersfield.
